Girls on the Run is a transformational learning program that works to encourage pre-teen girls to develop self respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games, culminating in a celebratory 5k run.

String-a-palooza is an annual concert, put on by the student orchestra's of Oakland Mill's feeder schools. It's a wonderful event to show students what it's like in the "next level" of orchestra and to see so many kids playing together.

The Student Science Fair is held each year in the spring, and all students are invited to participate by entering a science project. Each student is invited to display their science board and explain their project/experiment at this event.

Our annual Green Apple Day of Service projects create measurable change on environmental impact, health and wellness and environmental and sustainability literacy. The community gathers to help clean the school grounds, add new artwork, and prepare the garden for winter.

Reader's theater is a strategy for developing reading fluency. It involves children in oral reading through reading parts in scripts. In using this strategy, students do not need to memorize their part; they need only to reread it several times, thus developing their fluency skills.
